The Clock is Ticking...welcome back

Dear Dragons,

It is hard to believe that another school year is quickly approaching.  I hope that everyone had a fantastic summer.    Before you read any further, please mark August 23rd at 6:00pm on your schedule.  We will host the CISD Athletics Open House on Thursday, August 23 at the Carroll Sr. HS Auditorium from 6:00pm-7:00pm and then Dr. Greg Dale, the Director of the Sport Psychology and Leadership Programs for Duke Athletics, will present to parents The Sport Parent: Helping Your Child Maximize His or Her Potential.  Sponsored by CABC, all 7th-12th CISD parents of student-athletes are invited to the open house.  Read more about Dr. Dale here: http://www.excellenceinperformance.com/

I want to take one more moment and congratulate all of our student-athletes, coaches, parents, and the community for the July 1st announcement that we won the 2011-2012 UIL Lone Star Cup. With 5 team state championships, we completed the best sports year ever for a UIL 5A school!

We have had a busy summer with construction, new hires, and new projects.  We were very fortunate to have Alan Williams, author of Teammates Matter, speak to our coaches on July 27.  Alan will return during the school year to speak to our student-athletes and parents.  Our student-athletes will start hearing more and more about the principles discussed in Alan's book.

I am so thrilled to begin this year and look for great things from our program.  High School tennis, high school cross country, high school volleyball begin soon and high school football begins on August 13.  All middle school sports for the Fall semester will begin the first day of school, August 27.  Please remember to get all of your paperwork, including your annual physical and medical clearance, into your coach and/or athletic trainer.

One of the most exciting things about the upcoming school year is the addition and appointment of our 2012-2013 coaching staff.  The depth of experience and excitement that each coach brings to our staff has me really excited for our student-athletes.

Starting with our varsity head coaches, I am thrilled to have Coach Eric McDade joining us from Duncanville ISD to lead our boys basketball program.  Eric has a very rich track record as a head basketball coach and we are looking for great things to happen in the basketball arena.

Coach Corey Aldridge was promoted to be the head tennis coach in April.  Corey was an assistant to the very succesful,  retiring head coach, Norm Smith.  Replacing Corey Aldridge as the assistant tennis coach is Brenna Athens.  Brenna was the head varsity coach at Wylie East High School and we are very blessed to recruit a coach with head coaching experience to serve as our assistant coach.
On the varsity football staff, we promoted Jacob Webb from Carroll MS to serve as the varsity running backs coach.  Jarrett Bates will move from DMS to CMS to be the campus athletic coordinator at CMS, replacing Jacob Webb.

On the high school baseball staff, Larry Vucan moves into a full-time coaching role.  Larry served as a volunteer last year for the regional finalist baseball team. Coach Vucan will also assist 9th grade boys basketball.

On the high school volleyball staff, Lindsay Mitchell steps into a a fulltime teaching/coaching role after serving at CSHS last year as a student-teacher/coach.  Lindsay did a tremendous job last year and she is a great addition to our high-powered volleyball program.

Jordan Willis will join us as a high school assistant boys basketball and assistant track coach.  Jordan comes to us after spending time coaching the varsity at Saginaw HS and comes from a family of educators.

Charlie Liles and Ryan Schneider will also be joining the CMS coaching staff.  Charlie has been a varsity football coach at Carrollton Creekview HS and has also been a head varsity softball coach. Ryan has been coaching in Lake Dallas ISD.  Christine Benhoff also joins the CMS on the girls side and brings great experience from Kansas.

Veteran coach Billy Anderson will join the Dawson MS staff for the transferred Jarrett Bates.  Coach Anderson is a very decorated varsity coach with stops in Duncanville, Converse Judson, Cameron Yoe, Coppell, and Rice. Coach Anderson and I coached together on the Duncanville 1998 State Football Championship team and can tell you that he is one of the finest men that I know.  Our kids will be blessed by Billy's coaching/teaching. Former DMS coach, Rob Barker, is returning to DMS.  Rob is coming home after a high school coaching stint in Victoria ISD.  Coach Barker's return to CISD has been very well received as he was a favorite during his previous stop at DMS.

In addition to the quality of coaching experience that we hired over the summer, all of these men and women are great classroom teachers.

Personnally, I cannot wait for the beginning of another sports year and have started gearing up for the fun.  Please log-in and stay in touch with what is going on in our program.  In addition to this blog, you can follow us on Twitter @SLCAthletics, @CoachOzee or on Facebook at SLCAthletics.  As always, you may also email me anytime at kevin.ozee@southlakecarroll.edu as well.

I hope to see you at the game soon.

Best Regards,
Coach Ozee
